Oklahoma's push to modernize education and prepare young minds for future industries took a definitive shape yesterday as Governor Kevin Stitt together with Secretary of Education Nellie Sanders announced the creation of the Human Potential for Future Industries Task Force. Charged with the goal to unleash student capabilities, the new initiative focuses on innovative approaches to meld workforce demands with personal student strengths. "We’re building the best workforce in the nation, and that means reimagining education to focus more on real-world experience and individual strengths of students in preparation for tomorrow's industry needs," Governor Stitt said in a statement obtained by Oklahoma government's official website.

The endeavor aims to bridge gaps between current educational formats and the necessities of a technological future through a set of defined objectives. The task force is set to identify early talent-development tools that align with workforce opportunities. It will also recommend ways to individualize curricula to better match the strengths of each student. “The current educational model isn’t built for the future, it’s barely built for the present,” Secretary Sanders told the Oklahoma government's newsroom. She emphasized the need to explore personalized curricula, and to delve into apprenticeships and soft skills to ready Oklahoma's students for the world ahead.

Central to the task force's mission is building a strategy that fosters practical experience, whether that be through internships, apprenticeships, or in partnership with community and industry leaders. To achieve this, working closely with schools and educational bodies is essential, just as it is seeking to expand and adapt teacher preparation and upskilling efforts from K-12 through tertiary education.

The task force will seek to firmly grasp, and then to act upon, three core pillars outlined by the Governor's office: The discovery of individual student potential, the development of essential skills like creativity and technological literacy, and the deployment of talent through immersive learning experiences. To update the Governor and legislative bodies on progress, the newly formed task force pledges quarterly reports with an eye on individualized learning and academic growth. According to the Oklahoma government's newsroom, these reports will be critical in shaping policy recommendations for the Governor and state educational agencies.
