A violent confrontation claimed a life and left another person wounded following an incident in southwest Atlanta yesterday, sources report. According to FOX5 Atlanta, the shooting happened near 875 Metropolitan Parkway SW. Responding officers found two males with gunshot injuries, one 18 years old, who was taken to a local hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.
The second victim, a male, was found deceased at the scene. No identities have been released as, the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting continues. The Atlanta Police Department suggests that the incident may have originated from a verbal dispute between the two parties involved.
In an overlapping account, a separate yet similar incident happened inside a grocery store at the same address. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, gunfire erupted after a disagreement turned deadly between two men who reportedly knew each other prior to the shooting. A 20-year-old was pronounced dead on the site, while the 18-year-old was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
"There was an argument between the men, prompting both to pull out handguns and fire at least five combined shots," Homicide Commander Lt. Andrew Smith recounted. Smith also mentioned that a couple of workers present during the incident escaped unscathed, stating, "Bullets were flying, but they didn’t get hit." The grocery store, Family Grocery Store LLC, which found itself as an unlikely arena for the shootout, is nestled cozily at an intersection in the Adair Park neighborhood, typically serving as a community staple rather than a crime scene, as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Authorities have not confirmed if the two incidents are directly related, yet the proximity in location and timing raises questions which remain as detectives gather more information.
