Orange County officials are slated to deliberate on the future of a plot of land acquired as the site for a Pulse Museum. As reported by WFTV, Commissioners will convene today to vote on a proposal concerning the 1.7 acres situated on West Kaley Street. This area lies in proximity to the Pulse nightclub location of the tragic 2016 mass shooting. The parcel in question was initially purchased by the former onePULSE Foundation for $3.5 million using funds from the Tourism Development Tax.
The resolution, if passed, will move to sell the West Kaley Street property through a sealed bid process. This piece of real estate, which has sat idle after plans for the museum failed to materialize, was taken back by the county from the dissolved onePULSE Foundation. Eyewitness News from WFTV shared that the proceeds from the sale will channel back into tourism tax dollar funds, a measure indicating the county's efforts to recoup the investment after the aborted museum project.
As per details by My News 13, the foundation's dissolution they are occurred late last year, prompting the city to take charge of the plans for a permanent memorial. The envisioned tribute aims to honor the 49 individuals whose lives were cut short during the Pulse nightclub shooting, ensuring their memory is preserved.
Interested members of the public can view the commission meeting live to follow the development of this proposal. The county officials' verdict on this matter could reshape the use of the said property, and, reflect on the responsibilities toward both the victims' legacy and taxpayers. The county commissioner meeting is expected to kick off at 9 a.m., with live coverage available on Channel 9.
