In an effort to strengthen community ties and encourage open dialogue, the Peoria Police Department is inviting local residents to join them for a steaming cup of joe on National Coffee with a Cop Day. Set for October 2, this year's event offers a rare chance for Peoria citizens to sit down with law enforcement in an informal setting.

The gathering is scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at Panera Bread, located at 7635 W. Bell Rd., as reported by the City of Peoria's official website. One of the main goals of this initiative is to forge a stronger bond between police officers and the people they serve. Inside times of crisis or heated emotion, interactions between officers and civilians can be fraught, the majority of those interactions are not always suitable for fostering trust and understanding.

"Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Peoria’s neighborhoods," the Peoria Police Department was quoted on the City of Peoria's official website. Attendees are encouraged to discuss issues concerning their community, inquire about policing efforts, and experience the human side of the officers who patrol their streets.

In addition to promoting community conversation, the Peoria Police Department will also use this occasion to support a charitable cause. They have initiated the sale of new Pink Patches with all proceeds destined for the local breast cancer charity partner, Check for a Lump. This effort aligns with a national movement wherein law enforcement officers wear pink patches to increase awareness and raise funds for breast cancer research and treatment.
