Trail enthusiasts and commuters who frequent the New River Trail in Peoria will need to seek alternate routes starting tomorrow. The City of Peoria is initiating erosion repair work which requires partial closure of the popular trail. The first section to be closed, starting tomorrow, Sept. 19, is located west of Loop 101 under the US 60 bridge, as announced on the City's official news release.
This closure, pivotal for the maintenance and safety of the trail infrastructure, is expected to last until Thursday, Oct. 3. Officials urge trail users to respect the closure signs for their own safety and to ensure the timely completion of repairs. The work is part of a larger initiative to preserve the trail, which winds alongside the New River, a staple for outdoor activities in the area.
Those who normally traverse this section of the trail will need to plan around this temporary inconvenience. It’s an interlude expected to extend over the next two months as work crews move along different segments, addressing areas most in need of erosion control measures. The city promises more updates as the work progresses, ensuring residents are kept informed and can plan their outdoor activities accordingly.
