A routine traffic collision in Duxbury has led to the detention of a Plymouth man on multiple firearms charges. According to a statement from the Duxbury Police Department, the incident, which occurred at approximately 7:30 PM on Saturday, involved two vehicles at the intersection of Rt. 53 and Franklin St. The collision resulted in only minor injuries to both drivers, who were transported to BID-Plymouth for treatment.
However, the aftermath of the crash unveiled more than just wrecked metal and traffic disruptions. A passenger in one of the cars, identified as 29-year-old Aaron Swift of Plymouth, was discovered to have an active arrest warrant. The warrant, issued from Falmouth District Court, cites multiple firearms charges against Swift. Despite his involvement in the crash, his medical condition necessitated a transfer to a Boston hospital, where he is currently receiving additional care. Duxbury Police Chief Michael Carbone informed that due to bail being set at $25,000, officers will be assigned to guard Swift in shifts until he either posts bail or is taken into the custody of the courts.
Officials are taking extra steps to ensure Swift remains in custody as the legal process moves forward. This situation shows how local law enforcement must adapt quickly to unexpected challenges. Swift, who might not have been arrested without the accident, is now in a hospital where the legal process is on hold until he recovers.
