A Multnomah County Circuit Court judge has sentenced 33-year-old Ramond Lawrence to life imprisonment with the eligibility for parole after 30 years following his conviction on charges connected to the 2023 shooting death of Teonjenique Hudson. This decision was reported by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office on Friday, marking the culmination of a case that has drawn substantial attention in Portland.
The incident led to Lawrence's conviction and occurred during a birthday celebration at the Embassy Suites Hotel on March 15, 2023. A dispute broke out in an 8th-floor room and rapidly escalated to gunfire, leaving several individuals injured. Amongst the chaos, Teonjenique Hudson and Adrian Granville were fatally shot. According to witness statements, as detailed by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, Lawrence was the one who fatally shot Hudson. This testimony proved to be a pivotal component in the trial that followed.
On June 13, Deputy District Attorney Brian Davidson prosecuted the case, which ended with Judge Benjamin Souede finding Lawrence guilty of Murder in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The sentencing, held on August 30, was delivered by the same judge who presided over the trial. Following the court's decision, Lawrence is set to be transferred into the custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections to serve his sentence.
The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office recognized how deeply Hudson's death affected her family and friends and highlighted the impact of violence on the community. They also thanked all the departments and people involved in the investigation and trial, including the Gresham Police, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and Port of Portland Police.
