Residents and commuters in Gilbert are reaping the benefits of transportation upgrades, courtesy of Proposition 400 funding. With the region's surge in popularity, the need to address increased traffic became apparent, and Prop 400, passed two decades ago, has proven to be the gift that keeps on giving with projects like the overhaul of Germann Road, as reported by the Maricopa Association of Governments.
Once a disparate assembly of lanes, Germann Road now boasts a full six lanes with modern amenities like bike lanes and sidewalks. The project, aimed to address both vehicular and non-vehicular needs, has significantly smoothened the flow of traffic in the area. Aaron Pinkerton, Gilbert’s town traffic engineer, underscored the interplay between the Germann Road improvements and the now easier access to the Loop 202. "It’s hard to separate the impact Germann made versus the addition of the Lindsay interchange as they occurred in close proximity while traffic volumes were still normalizing after Covid," Pinkerton told MAG News.
Improvements weren't limited to Germann Road. Lindsay Road between Germann Road and Loop 202 also saw upgrades, providing an additional access point to the freeway, which helps in moving traffic more effectively. "Both the Val Vista and Lindsay interchanges are heavily used. I would say Germann road improvements strongly support the Lindsay/202 interchange, allowing traffic to better utilize both interchanges," said Pinkerton in a statement made by MAG News.
