Redwood City local police have apprehended a man suspected of sexual assault near a school. According to the Redwood City Police Department, Erick Vasquez, a 43-year-old Redwood City resident, is alleged to have approached female juveniles, urging them to enter his vehicle on multiple occasions over the past year.

The unsettling events prompted officers to respond on Tuesday after they were called to Hoover School on 701 Charter Street, where the suspect had been seen. Examining the area's video surveillance helped pinpoint a vehicle thought to belong to the suspect. The initial search did not lead to an immediate arrest despite extensive efforts.

Yesterday, at around 6:13 P.M., detectives successfully located Vasquez at Spring Street and Scott Avenue. Following the suspect's apprehension, he was charged and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility. He faces serious charges, including Penal Code 288(a), Lewd and Lascivious acts with a minor, and Penal Code 288.3(a), Communicate with a Minor to Commit Lewd Act.

The department continues to seek information from the public, encouraging anyone with insights into the case to step forward. Detective Erik Ottersen can be reached at (650) 780-7620 or [email protected], while the non-emergency number for the Redwood City Police Department is available at (650)780-7100.
