Yesterday morning, a fire broke out in a Southwest Miami-Dade apartment leading to an evacuation of its residents. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported that they responded to the blaze at the 1300 block of Southwest 122nd Avenue at 6:42 a.m. Upon their arrival, they encountered building occupants leaving the premises and noted heavy smoke billowing from the third floor. NBC Miami provided these initial details of the incident.
According to fire rescue, they checked the floors immediately above and below the fire’s location for possible further fire spread. Fortunately, the fire was brought under control and fire rescue units remained on scene to clear the smoke from the building. In a statement obtained by NBC Miami, officials confirmed that, as of their latest updates, there had been no reported injuries or need for transports to the hospital.
A simultaneous coverage by WSVN reported a group of residents who had evacuated were gathered in a parking lot while crews worked to contain the situation. Earlier reports had indicated the presence of smoke on the third floor, leading to this call to action by the emergency services.
One woman, whose condition was not immediately made clear, was seen being taken into an ambulance. It remains unclear if she suffered from smoke inhalation or if her medical attention was related to different cause. The origin of the fire has not yet been disclosed to public, as the investigations into the cause are presumably ongoing.
