The incident, which White Pine Police describe as stemming from road rage, occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. by Exit Four close to the interstate, WIVK reports.
The White Pine Police Department was swift to confirm that, although the situation had previously been tense, by the time of their response the scene was controlled, “The scene is safe and is not an active shooter situation.” WATE shared details from a social media post by the WPPD meant to reassure the community and to advise drivers to steer clear of the area while the investigation was underway. As of 8 a.m., the condition of the victim remained undisclosed.
Injuries sustained by the victim are said to be life-threatening, and as of Monday morning's latest updates, their exact condition was still unclear. Authorities have not released any information regarding the identity of the shooting victim or if any suspects have been detained.
Police urged the public to use alternative routes while the area around the shooting was being examined by investigators. “Currently, investigators are on scene so please avoid the area and take an alternate route,” said the White Pine Police Department, a statement corroborated by WVLT.
