
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), in collaboration with the Murray County Sheriff’s Office, has arrested three individuals in connection with a deadly shooting that took place on August 25, 2024. The arrestees include TyKel Keshawn Hutchinson, a 19-year-old from Rome, GA; a 16-year-old, also from Rome; and Keano Nestor, 17, who is charged with tampering with evidence. Hutchinson and the unnamed minor are facing charges of aggravated assault and felony murder in the death of Jeffery Tyler Ray, 18, of Rydal, GA. According to an updated news release from the GBI, the incident occurred at an outdoor party on Sexton Road in Resaca, Murray County.
The events unfolded after deputies quickly responded to a call reporting a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Ray with gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, he sadly did not survive. Another victim was also discovered with a gunshot wound to the face but was able to receive treatment and survive. To further investigate the fatal incident, Ray's body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
As per the original release by the GBI, Anthony Wilkinson, aged 25, had been initially charged with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder in connection to Ray's death. The ongoing investigation seeks to unravel the sequence of these tragic events and understand the motive behind this violence. The GBI's press release has made a public call for anyone with information to step forward and contribute to the clarity of this case. They offer several ways to submit tips, including a phone call to the Calhoun regional investigative office, an online tip submission, and a mobile application designed for such reports.
The Murray County community is shaken by this violent act as residents try to understand the sudden loss of life during what should have been a joyful gathering.
