Following recent legal actions by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Ethan T. Seaton, a 20-year-old man from Roodhouse, Illinois, faces severe charges linked to child sexual abuse material, as reported by the Illinois Attorney General's Office. Seaton was charged on Sept. 26 with two counts of dissemination and two counts of possession of such materials, with the dissemination charges being classified as Class X felonies, carrying up to 30 years each, and the possession charges are Class 2 felonies, with a maximum of seven years per charge.
The Attorney General's office, in lockstep with federal and local law enforcement, is actively pursuing individuals involved in the online circulation of these materials. Seaton currently remains at the Greene County Jail and is scheduled for a detention hearing on Sept. 30. Attorney General Raoul underscored in a statement the urgency of this work, emphasizing that "my office will continue to collaborate with law enforcement at all levels and throughout the state to ensure those responsible for this abuse are held accountable and protect other children."
Investigators from Raoul's office partnered with the Roodhouse Police Department and the Illinois State Police South Central Illinois Drug Task Force to execute a search warrant at Seaton's residence on Sept. 24, which resulted in his admission of both possessing and spreading abusive content involving minors. "Children and youth are among our most vulnerable populations and ISP special agents are committed to tracking down perpetrators whenever we find evidence of child sexual abuse and exploitation," ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly told the Illinois Attorney General's Office.
The case is being handled by Raoul’s High Tech Crimes Bureau, with Assistant Attorney General Katherine Hegarty heading the prosecution the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant, plays a critical role in these types of investigations, having received over 46,150 CyberTips and been instrumental in more than 755 arrests of sexual predators since 2019. The Attorney General's Office encourages the public to report any instances of child sexual exploitation at cybertipline.com and other forms of abuse on Illinois' designated reporting platforms.
