Salt Lake City has just been selected as the recipient of an Accelerated Mobility Playbook (AMP) Technical Assistance Grant by City Thread, a national nonprofit focused on improving transportation connectivity. According to SLC, this grant is meant to propel the city towards achieving its transportation objectives at a much-accelerated pace.

The grant will aid in enhancing Salt Lake City's roadway safety, aligning with its Vision Zero approach to prevent traffic fatalities and severe injuries. As part of this endeavor, the grant will support the construction of an all-ages-and-abilities network that intends to serve every neighborhood and maintain travel times on par with those of motor vehicles. "We are excited to welcome Salt Lake City into our cohort of cities prioritizing mobility projects," Sara Studdard said, as obtained by SLC.

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall expressed determination to "achieve our ambitious mobility goals of safer streets for everyone" with the help of AMP. The mayor intends to bring together both City departments and external transportation advocates to expedite the creation of a comprehensive bike network in the city. This project aligns with the broader Complete Streets ordinance and aims to accelerate the Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan.

City Thread's grant, which requires the city to contribute a local $15,000 match, is valued at a total of $50,000 and comes with various deliverables. It's part of a wider effort by City Thread to address housing and sustainability issues through the improvement of multimodal infrastructure. Salt Lake City Transportation Division Director Jon Larsen added, "This AMP grant will greatly enhance our efforts to accelerate the construction of an all-ages-and-abilities network," as per SLC.
