Early yesterday morning, a man was fatally shot after an incident in San Diego's East Village neighborhood, the San Diego Police Department reported. According to details provided on the city's official website, the violence erupted near 9th Street and F Street around 12:49 a.m., prompting a swift response from nearby officers who, upon arrival, found a young man with gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, the 18-year-old Black male victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital. His identity is withheld until his family can be notified.
The investigation, which has since been taken over by SDPD Homicide Detectives, suggests the deceased may have been in a previous altercation with a group of men in a local club, but it remains to be confirmed whether the incidents are connected detectives are now attempting to establish a link between the two altercations. Witness descriptions have so far pointed to four Black male adults in dark clothing fleeing east on F Street following the shooting.
Authorities are in the midst of a thorough investigation, which includes collecting physical evidence from the scene, locating and interviewing witnesses, and scouring the area for any surveillance footage that may provide further details on the case. The SDPD calls on the public to come forward with any information, facilitating contact through its Homicide Unit and the Crime Stoppers program, where tips can be made anonymously if preferred.
