The San Luis I Land Port of Entry is getting some upgrades, which will impact your evening travel. The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has announced a temporary closure of lanes for southbound travelers and a shift in the northbound lanes, according to the City of San Luis official website.
From September 16 to 20, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., southbound traffic will experience a lane reduction from three lanes to one, likely causing delays. Northbound drivers will face a different kind of inconvenience, as they'll have to follow a detour from September 23 to 27 during the same nighttime hours.
These changes are part of a broader construction effort funded by the $307.5 million Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aimed at modernizing and expanding the busy port. Officially, it's all about progress and modernization, but for those navigating the area, it often feels like a dance of red taillights and slow-moving traffic. The work began in June 2023 and has been ongoing ever since.
Drivers should anticipate congestion in the southbound lanes between Archibald Street (at B Street) and the southbound inspection canopy, where traffic will merge into a single lane. In the northbound direction, there won't be a reduction in lanes, but they will be shifted over between the northbound canopy and Urtuzuastegui Street.
