Residents of Sandy Springs have an opportunity to get a closer look at a proposed plan to make their streets safer. City officials have announced a public open house where the community can learn about an upcoming intersection improvement project focusing on the Mount Vernon Highway and Long Island Drive crossroads. The initiative aims to enhance safety measures for both drivers and pedestrians traversing this area.
The open house is scheduled for October 7, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and will be held at the Sandy Springs City Hall located in the Barfield Conference Room on the second floor, at 1 Galambos Way in Sandy Springs, GA. The event provides residents with the chance to engage with city officials, ask questions, and give their input on the planned changes.
As reported by the City of Sandy Springs official website, the planned improvements include the realignment of the intersection to improve sight distance for drivers on Long Island Drive turning onto Mount Vernon Highway. A new traffic signal is also part of the plan. With the widening of the roadway, the project will also see enhancements such as upgraded striping and signage, along with the realignment of the Arlington Cemetery Driveway and freshly laid sidewalks.
These improvements are intended to connect seamlessly with the sidewalk enhancements previously completed on Mount Vernon Highway, signaling a comprehensive strategy to upgrade the area’s infrastructure. Through additional features like right-of-way acquisition, and utility coordination, the project aims to deliver a safer and more efficient commuting experience for the Sandy Springs community.
