Authorities in Santa Monica have taken a man into custody following a distressing incident earlier this month where a woman was exposed to an indecent act by an intruder. The Santa Monica Police Department reported that at around 4:10 AM on September 7, officers responded to reports of a residential prowler in the 900 block of 7th Street. According to the City of Santa Monica, they discovered a female victim who had been awakened by the suspect touching her leg while exposing his genitals.
The suspect, who was found a short distance away after fleeing the scene when the victim escaped to call police, has been identified as 34-year-old Anthony Townson, as detailed by the City of Santa Monica. Unfortunately, sexual assaults are not uncommon in the United States, with disturbing frequency happening under cover of night. The suspect gained entry through an unlocked patio sliding door, as reported by the Santa Monica Police Department.
Townson, who is currently homeless, is facing felony charges including residential burglary and indecent exposure during an unlawful entry. FOX LA reported Townson's prior criminal history, which encompasses offenses such as trespassing, loitering on private property, and carrying a concealed dirk/dagger, among others.
