Scottsdale's Civic Center Library is perking up its offerings with a new café that is sure to become a staple for local bibliophiles and casual visitors alike. Yellow Spruce Roasters is set to fill the library with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee starting tomorrow — inviting patrons to enjoy a beverage or pastry alongside their literature and library activities. According to a recent announcement, the local coffee shop aims to create a cozy corner for readers and the community to gather.
"We are thrilled to welcome Yellow Spruce Roasters to our library system," Michael Beck, Scottsdale Public Library director, expressed with evident enthusiasm. The Civic Center location has been without a café since 2020, when former occupants Beneficial Beans and Meg’s Café vacated. Beck noted the importance of the space, saying to the City of Scottsdale, "Bringing back a café space for our patrons to relax at and grab a great cup of coffee while enjoying all of the dynamic services offered at Civic Center was a high priority for us." After a thorough selection process involving various vendors, Yellow Spruce Roasters was chosen to cater to the community's needs.
The presence of coffee culture within a library setting is not a novel concept, yet it remains an inviting combination. Offering a place to unwind with a book in one hand and a coffee in the other could stimulate longer visits and more frequent use of library resources. Yellow Spruce Roasters will be serving their coffee, teas, and pastries from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, providing an additional incentive for visitors to stop by the library throughout the week.
The grand opening, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 18, is expected to attract not only regular library-goers but also those looking to enjoy the charm of Old Town Scottsdale. Though the café will be closed on Sundays, its doors will be open the rest of the week, combining culinary delights with the pleasure of reading and learning.
