A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries following a late-night crash inside Boston's Callahan Tunnel. The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday and prompted a response from Massachusetts State Police and Boston EMS, who transported the injured individual to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment, as reported by NBC Boston.
The tunnel, which connects Boston’s North End neighborhood to Boston Logan Airport in East Boston, was forced to temporarily shut down, causing disruptions that lasted approximately three hours. Despite the late hour, Boston police had to quickly step in to manage the ensuing traffic, before the tunnel reopened for normal travel around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash and have yet to all but rule out the incident as an accident.
State Police officials have engaged Troop H Detectives, the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section (CARS), and the Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS) in their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. According to a WHDH report, the crash initially appears to be an accident, but full details and contributing factors are still to be fully established by authorities.
Massachusetts State Police have not yet provided a definitive timeline for when their investigation will conclude, nor have they released details regarding the condition of the injured motorcyclist.
