An 82-year-old man was arrested in Sewickley for indecent exposure following reports of lewd acts near a local ice cream shop, where families and children often visit. According to WPXI, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in a busy and typically family-friendly area. David Whitten, of Franklin Park, was apprehended by authorities after allegedly touching and exposing himself in what was said by witness reports to visible distress.
Sewickley Police Chief David Mazza, who provided a statement in the incident, per WPXI report, said, "Numerous people observed what they perceived to be lewd behavior." The allegations are significant as they involved an area frequented by kids and families. On Friday, Whitten was confronted with the consequences of his alleged indecency when taken into custody.
Further collaborative efforts between Sewickley and Allegheny County police enabled the identification and arrest of Whitten, who is now facing multiple charges. As CBS News Pittsburgh reports, law enforcement officials have charged Whitten with corruption of minors, indecent exposure, and open lewdness.
Currently, Whitten is being held at the Allegheny County Jail as he awaits arraignment. The efficiency of local law enforcement has been noted, as they managed to secure an arrest warrant swiftly after the purported incident to diminish any potential public unrest. His apprehension was executed Friday night, less than 48 hours after Allegheny County Police were alerted to the indecent acts.
