Early Saturday morning, a routine traffic stop by officers assigned to District B-2 in Roxbury led to the arrest of a South End woman for multiple firearm and motor vehicle violations. According to the Boston Police Department, the officers were on patrol when they spotted a vehicle with an expired registration on the 1500 block of Columbus Ave around 3:20 a.m.
When they stopped the car, the officers identified the driver as 25-year-old Crystal Oviedo, of the South End. A subsequent check revealed that Oviedo's driver's license was suspended, leading to further investigation of the vehicle. During their search, officers discovered a firearm beneath the passenger seat—a Taurus Millennium Pt111 G2 9mm semi-automatic weapon, complete with ammunition and an obliterated serial number.
Oviedo was taken into custody and is facing arraignment in Roxbury District Court. The charges listed include carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle on a public way.
District B-2 Detectives are involved in the case, following the recovery of the weapon and the ammunition which consisted of 8 rounds in a metallic feeding device, and 1 round in the chamber.
