
A woman was fatally shot in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood, a tragedy that has left the community shaken. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the victim, identified as Tatanisha Jackson, 43, was inside a residence around 4 p.m. on the 6800 block of South Cornell Avenue when a 17-year-old male approached and shot her multiple times in the head.
After the gunfire, Jackson was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center. She succumbed to her injuries there, as confirmed by the Cook County medical examiner’s office. A firearm was located at the scene by the Chicago police, however, there have been no immediate reports of any arrests made, Hoodline reports.
In a follow-up to the incident, ABC7 Chicago reports that a person of interest is now in custody. Police revealed that the shooting occurred as Jackson was entering her home with her husband and son, where she was confronted by the assailant. Neighbors have expressed their shock, with one, Wendy Herring stating, "It's devastating, you know? I will be looking for her when I come to sit on the back sometimes."
Another neighbor, Monique Tropet told ABC7 Chicago, "I just can't even process this, unfortunately. It just seems so sad and scary." The South Shore community, now dealing with this abrupt act of violence, remains on edge as the police investigation continues. Specific details about the person in custody have yet to be released to the public.
