Spring Valley Breaks Ground on New 9-Acre Calavo County Park with Skate Area, Playgrounds, and MoreSource: County of San Diego

Ground has officially been broken for a new leafy escape in Spring Valley, a 9-acre park destined to bring joy and much-needed recreational facilities to local residents. Dubbed Calavo County Park, it sits off Calavo Drive, cozied up near Jamacha Boulevard, it’s not just your run-of-the-mill grass and bench affair.

The upcoming community hangout boasts an all-wheel park for skateboarding aficionados, two playgrounds for the kiddos, and nature play apparatus for those who prefer their fun with a dose of the great outdoors, as reported by the County of San Diego. Expect to see sports enthusiasts duking it out on the basketball, and pickleball courts, or perhaps scoring goals on the soccer and baseball fields. For the four-legged residents, there's even an off-leash dog park.

The design includes 85 spots, ensuring that the dreaded hunt for street parking is a thing of the past. These groundbreakers are not just thinking about fun and games, sustainability is also a key player, with plans to plant around 200 trees and a whopping 6,000 shrubs.

Feeling secure and keeping things spick and span is part of the equation, too. The park's master plan includes a live-on volunteer host, who'll watch over the premises overnight, help with upkeep, and run park programs. "On-site maintenance and security have been built into the design plan, thanks to the addition of a volunteer pad where a live-on volunteer host will reside", according to the County of San Diego.
