In a recent operation by the Springfield Police C3 Units and Squad 'C' officers, a significant weapons seizure involved a 16-year-old male and an 18-year-old female yesterday evening. Law enforcement officials, patrolling the Adams Street area, encountered a group of individuals aged 13 to 22 engaged in illegal activities.
Amid this group, officers recognized 18-year-old Arianna Santiago, who had missed a court date related to previous firearms charges from June. Santiago, along with the 16-year-old, whose identity remains protected due to his age, were both previously arrested on similar charges. Authorities promptly detained Santiago on the default warrant.
The examination of a vehicle associated with the 16-year-old led to a startling discovery. Springfield police found a small amount of marijuana and, more alarmingly, unlocked a Micro Draco semi-automatic firearm—akin to an AK-47 pistol variant—loaded with a 10-round magazine. According to the Springfield Police Department, the weapon was capable of holding up to 30 rounds of ammunition.
Resultant from the findings, Santiago faces several charges, including the default warrant, possession of a large-capacity magazine/feeding device, and possession of ammunition without an FID card. Meanwhile, the youthful offender's immediate future is now entangled in the juvenile justice system, details of which cannot be shared due to legal constraints on revealing information about underage offenders.
