The streets of St. Louis Park are undergoing a significant pavement makeover, marking a progression into the city's infrastructural future. Providing a much-needed revamp to the city's roadways, the 2024 Pavement Management Update #23 delineates the current status and next steps of the project, which is broken down into phases to minimize disruption and maximize efficiency.
According to the latest newsletter from the City of St. Louis Park, Phase 1 has reached a pivotal moment with the completion of the paving of the final layer of bituminous pavement on Vernon Avenue, and the intersection of Wooddale Avenue and 41st Street — scheduled to have been finished this Thursday, September 26. Post-pavement, the city plans to installation of new crosswalk paint at Wooddale Avenue and 41st Street, signaling a continued effort to prioritize pedestrian safety.
As for Phase 2 of the project, it is moving ahead with its road-surface improvements. Following the completed installation of sod last week, the City's update indicates, "Paving of the final layer of bituminous pavement in Phase 2 is tentatively scheduled to be completed on Wednesday, October 2."
Moving forward, Phase 3 is in a formative stage with the grading of the aggregate base occurring this week. The schedule details that "Paving of the first layer of bituminous pavement in Phase 3 is tentatively scheduled to be completed on Monday, September 30," as per an update from Aaron Wiesen, P.E., Project Engineer for the City of St. Louis Park. Additionally, the construction of new sidewalk spaces in phase 3 will follow the paving process, improving both the functionality and aesthetics of the city's walkways.
Lastly, Phase 4 has seen the finishing of underground utility work, crucial for the city's long-term operational needs. The update, jointly signed off by Project Engineer Aaron Wiesen and Project Coordinator Tom Leonhardt, reveals that "Concrete work (curb, driveway and sidewalk) has started this week and will continue into next week." The progress of the project is consistently documented and made available to the public, with further details accessible on the City's official website.
