A tragic incident of street racing has ended with a driver's death in St. Petersburg, Florida. WFLA reports that on September 11, 22-year-old Charles Williams IV was allegedly engaged in a street race on 1st Avenue South at 51st Street South when he crashed his vehicle into another driver's pickup truck. The collision resulted in the death of 52-year-old Corey Koeppen, who was ejected from his vehicle.

Police have charged Williams with vehicular homicide following the crash. Williams, driving an Infiniti Q60 at a high rate of speed, was purportedly competing against a black SUV in a bus lane when the accident occurred, according to a statement obtained by FOX13 News. The impact was strong enough to throw Koeppen from his Ford Ranger, causing fatal injuries. Williams, too, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries but has since been detained at the Pinellas County Jail.

In the search for others accountable, law enforcement is actively looking for the driver of the black SUV, believed to be the second participant in the street race that led to the deadly crash. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and are offering several avenues for witnesses to share what they know, including a phone line and a text-based tip service. "Anyone with information about the SUV or its driver is urged to call 727-893-7780, or send a text to TIP411," according to FOX13 News.

Despite new details, questions about the incident persist. As police continue their investigation, there are increasing calls for swift justice and stronger measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
