From September 15-21, surgical technologists across the nation are getting the acknowledgement they often go without for the rest of the year. "Surgical technologists are vital members of the operating room team, ensuring procedures run smoothly and safely," Willoughby explained in a statement obtained by the Arizona House of Representatives' press team.
This particular week has been set aside since 1984 to showcase the vital contributions of over 100,000 certified surgical technologists in the U.S. Willoughby's commendation recognizes these professionals who are relied upon to swiftly provide the right tools at the crucial moments in surgeries. “Their expertise in maintaining sterile environments and providing the right tools at the right time is essential to the success of every surgery," Willoughby highlighted. Their meticulous work is often unseen by the public, but its impacts on patient safety and surgical outcomes are without question significant.
Representative Willoughby represents a largely suburban electorate, serving Legislative District 13, which encompasses Chandler, Gilbert, and Sun Lakes. Her intimate experience with healthcare systems lends credibility to her praise for surgical technologists, an occupation that is arguably less recognized than other medical professions.
The work of these technicians is integral not only to maintaining the strict sanitary protocols necessary but also to support the overarching surgical teams that they are a part of.
