The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department apprehended 38-year-old Bryan Goodmon on Monday. Goodmon, who was wanted in connection to a deadly police pursuit in Plainfield, was detained by IMPD's Southeast Violent Crime Task Force and Violence Reduction Team on the east side of Indianapolis, as announced by the Avon Police Department through their Facebook page.
Goodmon is currently being held without bond at the Hendricks County Jail on multiple felony charges. According to the Avon Police Department, these charges include "unlawful possession of a syringe," "driving while suspended with a prior conviction in the last 10 years", "Knowingly or intentionally operating a motor vehicle without every receiving a license," and "possession of paraphernalia." Deputy Chief Brian Nugent of the Avon Police Department which is investigating the fatal incident, noted that Goodmon had active warrants prior to his arrest, as reported by FOX59.
The pursuit that led to Goodmon's detention began two weeks earlier at a Long John Silver's in Plainfield. It tragically resulted in the deaths of Barbara Williams, 78, and Bennie Williams, 79. Following the initial encounter where Goodmon allegedly refused to comply with officers' orders and fled, a chase ensued. An officer from the Plainfield Police Department crashed into the Williams' 2009 Ford Fusion during the pursuit, leading to their fatalities. The involved officer was placed on administrative leave post the incident.
It was confirmed by FOX59, the car believed to have been used by Goodmon during the chase was located on the same day of the crash, though it was not occupied at the time of discovery. The crash's complete report is still in progress, with the Avon Police Department indicating that the information will be released to the public once finalized.
The Avon Police Department has reminded the public that despite the allegations, Goodmon is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
