The City of Mansfield has been grappling with a sorrowful event after a recent shooting claimed the life of a teenager. The Mansfield Police Department confirmed the arrest of a suspect related to the fatal shooting that occurred last Thursday in the 800 block of Cutting Horse Dr. Acting on leads that emerged from their overnight efforts, detectives from Mansfield were able to locate the suspect vehicle at an apartment complex in East Dallas and subsequently arrested the suspect without incident, according to the Mansfield Police Department.
The individual apprehended is 21-year-old Elijah Hatton; details regarding the circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation. Hatton, born on April 16, 2003, now faces a charge of murder and is currently being held in jail. The department did not release information about the 17-year-old male victim, opting to keep his identity confidential at this juncture. Mansfield Police have encouraged anyone with information that could help with the case to step forward and assist them in their ongoing investigation.
Officers from the Mansfield Police Department were initially called to the location for a welfare check on the day of the incident, only to discover a dire scene where a male victim needed urgent medical attention due to a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of citizens and the Mansfield Fire Department Medics performing CPR, the male victim was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
As the case unfolds, the Medical Examiner’s Office will be charged with the identification of the victim and subsequent notification of his next of kin. Detective Jorge Ramirez has taken the lead in the investigation, supported by Lt. Adam Cellars. The police have issued a call to the public asking for any helpful information to be relayed to them. The Mansfield Police Department has conveyed their deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the young man whose life was tragically cut short.
