A high-speed chase through the streets of San Mateo ultimately led to the arrest of a suspect on charges of stealing a vehicle and evading police. The pursuit began yesterday morning as the California Highway Patrol chased a stolen white Ford F250 south on Highway 101. According to a report by the San Mateo Police Department, the driver, now identified as Jose Antunez, took the Poplar Avenue exit and continued his flight into San Mateo, leading law enforcement on a dangerous dance through city streets and Central Park.

The San Mateo Police Department assisted in the chase as Antunez maneuvered the stolen vehicle recklessly, necessitating a strategic withdrawal of officers for public safety. The search resumed shortly after, resulting in the location of the abandoned Ford F250 on Carmelita Drive. A short distance away, Antunez was apprehended while walking away from an alleged crime scene.

Evidence pivotal to the charges against Antunez was recovered inside the stolen truck. The 33-year-old Oakland resident is now facing several charges, including possession of stolen property, evading a police officer with disregard for public safety, and committing a felony while on bail. Following the incident, Antunez has been booked into San Mateo County Jail.
