A tragic car accident occurred Friday on Interstate 5 in Linn County, Oregon, claiming the life of a 45-year-old man, and severely injuring two teenagers, according to reports from the Oregon State Police. The incident took place near milepost 225, just before noon, when Dustin Andrew Brown, of Sweet Home, attempted to avoid crashing into the traffic ahead. Brown, alongside two 19-year-olds, was ejected from a black Hyundai Santa Fe as it rolled, with the vehicle ultimately landing on top of him. It is believed by the authorities that seatbelts were not in use by any of the occupants at the time of the crash, as detailed in a release featured on KPTV.
In the aftermath of the accident, efforts to provide emergency aid were hampered by a civilian drone, which obstructed a medical helicopter from landing at the scene. "It is a large safety risk we do not undertake," Natalie Hannah, a spokesperson for the medical helicopter provider, told OregonLive.com, indicating the critical challenges drones can present during emergency responses.
The Linn County crash resulted in highway closures for approximately 2.5 hours as state police, with assistance from Halsey Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation, conducted their investigation. The operator, Brown, did not survive the ordeal and was declared deceased at the scene. Brown's 19-year-old daughter and the other passenger, also 19, were transported to nearby hospitals with serious injuries, as reported by ClayCoNews.
