A teenager has been arrested in Phoenix after allegedly threatening a mass shooting across a dozen local schools, according to police statements. FOX 10 Phoenix reported that the Phoenix Police Department was alerted to the threats made on social media on September 12, which led to a significant police investigation and a series of school alerts.
The aftermath of the threat saw roughly 6,000 students absent from the schools in question. As the police worked to ensure safety and manage the situation, detectives identified and arrested a teenage boy on September 19, who purportedly confessed to making the threats following a dare from peers, according to a statement obtained by azfamily.com. The teen is facing multiple charges, including terroristic threats and computer tampering.
These incidents serve as a vivid reminder of the zero-tolerance policy that law enforcement maintains regarding such threats. As part of their statement, Phoenix police highlighted that "everyone involved will be arrested and booked into jail on serious felony charges." Those convicted could also be held financially responsible for the ensuing costs of response and investigation. Such liabilities extend to parents or guardians in cases involving juveniles.
