A teenager suspected in a series of armed robberies in Buford has been detained, Gwinnett County authorities have confirmed. Jay-Lan Shane Broughton, 17, now faces multiple charges, including three counts of armed robbery, four counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the arrest is the culmination of an investigation stemming from a May 24, 2024, incident where Broughton and others allegedly confronted two teenagers at a pool on Apple Grove Road, brandishing a firearm and stealing valuables including jewelry, debit cards, and personal identification.
The break in the case came when detectives were able to link a vehicle used in the armed robbery to another suspect, Edmond Buggs, also 17. Buggs had been arrested for a different robbery when he gave a statement admitting to the Buford robbery and named Broughton as the armed participant. Their association was further solidified by surveillance that captured the events, as reported by The Georgia Sun. Following Buggs' clues, authorities were able to apprehend Broughton after a search that lasted several months, warning the public that he was potentially armed and dangerous and likely remained in the vicinity of Gwinnett County.
Gwinnett County Police have secured Broughton in jail, where he awaits trial for the charges against him. However, the specifics of his capture have not been disclosed.
