An update emerged from Tempe where a 22-year-old mother, Valerie Magana-Gonzalez, became the fifth casualty in a devastating mobile home fire that occurred on August 25. This fire, which transpired in the Chaparral Village mobile home park, has now claimed the lives of an entire family. ABC15 reported the latest death on Saturday, confirming that Magana-Gonzalez succumbed to her injuries Friday night after striving to survive for more than two weeks.
The initial blaze took the lives of 51-year-old Monica Ruiz and 3-year-old Ariareli "Rose" Ruiz. In the wake of the tragedy, three more family members were hospitalized and critically wounded. Enrique "Junior" Ruiz, aged 24, and his 18-month-old daughter Ellany Ruiz, unfortunately, did not survive, passing away two days following the fire, with their deaths being reported by 12News. Magana-Gonzalez, the mother of the two young children, fought her injuries for more than two weeks before she tragically passed.
Residents of the mobile home park expressed their heartbreak over this catastrophic event. Jamie Aron described the mood saying, "You know, after what happened, it was tragic. We were all just heartbroken over what happened," in a statement to ABC15. In response to the incident, local firefighters and volunteers from Tempe Fire, Tempe Police, and the American Red Cross teamed up to install 145 smoke alarms in the community, aiming to prevent future calamities.
The importance of working smoke detectors was underscored by these prevention efforts, with firefighters hinting that available alarms could have been to possibly save lives.
