Tennessee Celebrates Third Year of Zero Boating Fatalities During Labor Day WeekendSource: Google Street View

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has something to celebrate—as visitors and residents returned to their jobs following the long weekend, the agency reported no boating-related fatalities for the Labor Day holiday period, marking the third year such incidents have been avoided. According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the period from August 31 to September 2 was marked by safety on the waters, a continuation of what is becoming a positive trend for the outdoor enthusiasts of Tennessee.

Even though it was a calm holiday weekend, boating officers had to step in a few times. There were two minor injuries on Chickamauga Lake and Dale Hollow Lake and one case of property damage. Officers also arrested five people for boating under the influence—four in Middle Tennessee and one in East Tennessee.

The good news is that boating-related deaths are down this year compared to last. Last year, there were 20 fatalities during this period, but so far in 2024, there have been 16. This drop suggests efforts to improve boating safety and enforcement are making a difference.
