Last night, the busy corridors of Interstate 24 were shut down following a severe crash which left three people injured. The Tennessee Department of Transportation relayed that the incident took place at mile marker 56 on the I-24 westbound lanes, enforcing a full road closure, as reported by WSMV.
According to the officials from Metro police, obtained by WKRN, the crash occurred around 9 p.m. when a Honda Civic, traveling at high speed, executed a swerve to avoid a truck, hit the median, and catapulted across all four lanes before coming to rest against a rock wall. Tragically wearing no seatbelts, the three occupants sustained serious injuries, with two of them being rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition.
Following the accident, traffic was rerouted at the Harding Place exit to Murfreesboro Road, as detailed in a service update by myTDOT on X. The disruption continued for several hours, spanning into the early hours until all lanes were reopened around midnight.
