Chaos unfolded on Interstate 85 south near Suwanee yesterday afternoon as a vehicle rollover and subsequent fire led to a complete shutdown of the thoroughfare. According to the FOX5 Atlanta, the incident occurred just before the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road exit, blocking all lanes and creating significant traffic delays.
The 11Alive report noted that the SkyTracker captured aerial views of the crash site where at least two other vehicles appeared to be involved. Emergency crews were dispatched to manage the conflagration and facilitate a clean-up of the debris strewn across the asphalt in an effort to reopen what is a major artery in the Suwanee area.
Local law enforcement, including officers from the Suwanee Police Department and troopers from the Georgia State Patrol, attended the scene to conduct an investigation into the cause of the accident. At the moment, details surrounding the catalyst of the crash remain undisclosed, and no official information regarding possible injuries has been released.
Travelers were advised to exercise patience and seek alternate routes as the southbound lanes remained closed for hours. As night fell and the tireless efforts of the emergency services prevailed, the lanes were eventually cleared and re-opened to the public. The responsiveness of the respective agencies mitigated what could have been a more prolonged disruption. Updates on the condition of those involved in the accident will be followed closely.
