A fire that broke out at the Bella Solara Apartments in northwest Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon resulted in two hospitalizations and left over 30 residents without a home, as reported by FOX5 Vegas. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue was called to the scene shortly after the fire began, with crews arriving around 3:15 p.m. The fire was escalated to a two-alarm blaze and knocked down at 3:27 p.m., after crews worked diligently to contain it, preventing further spread.
According to both FOX5 Vegas and 8 News Now, the incident left two individuals requiring medical attention for smoke inhalation and outdoor exposure, respectively. A dog was also saved from the inferno and taken to a shelter for assessment. The flame-engulfed establishment, located in the 7100 block of Smoke Ranch Road, saw 16 of its apartments affected, with half bearing the brunt of the fire, and the other eight damaged mainly by water and smoke.
The Red Cross of Southern Nevada has stepped in to provide vital assistance to the displaced residents. Together with the city of Las Vegas, they've set up an overnight shelter at Mirabelli Community Center offering not just a roof, but also food, water, clothing, personal care items, and financial aide. The cause of the apartment fire continues to be a subject of investigation, and no details have been confirmed at this time.
Residents of Bella Solara are grappling with the fallout of the unexpected disaster, as conveyed in interviews collected by 8 News Now. "You wake up one day and go to work and then you come home to this," explained Gabriela Bustamante, one of the affected tenants. Alarms failed to alert residents, leaving many to discover the emergency only upon hearing the clamor of approaching fire trucks. Long-term occupant, Ryan George, recalled it being the second fire he's witnessed in five years. Despite the current provisions, George expressed his intent to secure a hotel, as the rebuilding of day-to-day lives begins in the aftermath of Sunday's blaze.
