Yesterday evening, a severe traffic collision rocked the Otay Mesa neighborhood. Two vehicles, a 2012 Honda Accord, and a 2017 Toyota Prius, collided at the intersection of Otay Mesa Road and La Media Road. The San Diego Police Department has released details of the incident, indicating that the Honda failed to stop at a red light, striking the Prius traveling eastbound.
The aftermath of the crash was grim. According to the SDPD Watch Commander's Log, a 24-year-old woman driving the Honda had her vehicle impact with such force that her front passenger was ejected, sustaining significant facial injuries, an orbital fracture, and a concussion. Likewise, the 51-year-old male driver of the Prius suffered a fractured sternum. Luckily, however, both parties' injuries were classified as non-life threatening.
As the San Diego Police Department's Traffic Division continues to unravel the circumstances of the collision, they've mentioned that driving under the influence may have been a contributing factor. While the investigation is ongoing, SDPD is appealing to the public for any information related to the incident. Concerned citizens and witnesses are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 with any potentially enlightening details.
