Yesterday morning, two teenagers were injured in a shooting incident near Western Michigan University's campus in Kalamazoo. Home security footage shared with  WOODTV bore witness to the chaos: a loud bang pierced the night followed by screams, while another video captured people fleeing the area. Recovering from their injuries, the teens were taken to a hospital after and have since been released, signaling a swift response from local law enforcement and medical teams, and a ripple of relief that the violence did not result in a more tragic outcome.

Residents in the neighborhood, including college students and locals, described the area generally as peaceful, one WMU student recounted to WOODTV his perspective of the scene stating, "It was pretty calm until the incident happened, and then students kind of just fled very quickly down Kimbark Avenue trying to flee the scene," and despite the alarming incident, he added, "I’ve never really felt in danger at all during my time living here."

Currently, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is treating the incident as isolated and are dedicated to piecing together the events.
