A woman in University City was fatally shot through her apartment door amid gunfire that stemmed from an attempted robbery gone awry. Ashleigh Selmon, 39, lost her life in this sudden act of violence that disrupted the quiet of a residential area.
The incident unfolded on the 6400 block of North Drive, where Selmon's son, while working on a car, was accosted by two individuals, named as Carlione Boyd, 20, and Terrell McCann Jr., 22. According to police reports and surveillance footage, a struggle ensued when the son managed to gain control of Boyd's firearm and fired shots at the assailants. McCann, despite being struck and subsequently paralyzed, returned fire, sending bullets careening through Selmon's door, according to KSDK.
Both Boyd and McCann Jr. are now facing charges of second-degree murder, and first-degree attempted robbery, with bond set at $500,000. While McCann Jr. remains hospitalized due to his injuries, police have since taken Boyd into custody. In a statement obtained by First Alert 4, Cpt. Fredrick Lemons of the University City Police Department expressed his department's commitment to "ensuring the safety of all our residents" in light of these horrific events.
The community is left to grapple with the shock and sorrow of Selmon's untimely death. "She never did nothing to nobody," Mariah Bean, a neighbor, and dear friend of Selmon, told First Alert 4 in an interview, depicting Selmon as a trusted and beloved figure among those who knew her.
