A woman lost her life in a hit-and-run incident earlier today on the northwest side of Indianapolis. As reported by FOX59, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of North High School Road around 6 a.m. after receiving a report of a person down at the location.
Despite the immediate response from law enforcement and emergency personnel, the woman was found deceased at the scene. The IMPD Fatal Crash Investigation Team was called in to take over the proceedings. In the efforts to fully assess the situation and systematically grieve for the pieces of evidence, North High School Road was closed from Gateway Drive to Commons Drive. At this time, IMPD has not released when the road is expected to reopen.
WISH-TV shared further details, indicating that the woman is believed to have been walking in the southbound lane when she was struck by the vehicle that subsequently left the scene. IMPD Public Affairs Officer Tommy Thompson revealed to the news outlet that this incident marks the city's 24th fatality resulting from a hit-and-run this year.
The increase in these incidents has, according to Thompson, "It's happened all too often this year." IMPD investigators are now fervently seeking to gather any available information on the suspect vehicle. However, as of now, no suspect details have been disclosed, as per a report from WTHR.
The community is urged to share any information that could help identify the person responsible. IMPD encourages anyone with leads to come forward.
