Worcester Police officers responded to a commercial break-in on Green St earlier this month after a business reported a theft. An overnight break reportedly led to money being stolen from a register. The Worcester PD released a statement confirming that the suspect was caught on video during the incident.
The breakthrough came when an officer, patrolling Kelley Square on September 10th, recognized Rafael Crespi, 30, from Main St, who was donning the same attire as the suspect in the surveillance footage. After a stop and identification, Crespi was arrested in connection to the Green St break-in. Crespi, was charged with Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime for a Felony, officials said.
The arrest underscores a moment of diligence on behalf of the Worcester Police, who matched the suspect to the crime scene with remarkable, yet meticulous attention to detail. Details of Crespi's arraignment or legal representation were not immediately available following his arrest.
This incident punctuates the broader narrative of property crimes that businesses face, particularly those not protected by the unblinking eye of surveillance cameras. With Crespi's arrest following a relatively swift investigation, the Worcester community can find some reassurance in their police force's commitment to solving such crimes. "Officers remain dedicated to the safety and well-being of all Worcester businesses," the department stated.
