A 16-year-old girl has been charged with armed robbery after an incident involving a 26-year-old man on Chicago Transit Authority property earlier this month. The juvenile, whose name has not been released due to her age, was arrested on October 23 in the 5100 block of S. Wentworth Ave., according to the Chicago Police Department's news release.
The arrest came after she was identified from a Community Alert as one of the offenders in an armed robbery that occurred on October 13, around 8:57 p.m. Reports indicate that the juvenile was allegedly armed with a knife when she took personal belongings from the victim while on CTA property located in the 2000 block of S. Archer Ave. She is facing a felony count of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and is scheduled for a juvenile detention hearing at 1100 S. Hamilton Court on the date of October 24, 2024.
As the case involves a minor, details surrounding the incident and the offender are limited. The Chicago Police Department has not released additional information regarding the nature of the stolen items or if there was any injury to the victim during the robbery. The case has brought the safety of CTA properties back into the public conversation, highlighting the ongoing concerns about crime in and around the city's transit systems.
The juvenile's detention hearing will likely determine the next steps in her legal process, and authorities may seek to keep her in custody pending further court action.
