An incident of gun violence disrupted the southwest Atlanta neighborhood yesterday evening. According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers were dispatched to the address of 320 Fairburn Road SW yesterday, just after nightfall at precisely 7:23 p.m., responding to reports of a person having been shot.
Upon arriving at the scene, the first responders found a young man, just 21 years old, in a grave but stable condition. He had sustained a gunshot wound clear through his chest, a frightening sight for any witness. The APD reported that despite his injuries, the victim remained alert and was capable to communicate, a miracle considering the circumstances. He was quickly transported to an area hospital to receive urgent medical care and, per the last update, was still undergoing treatment.
The investigation into this shooting is being led by the Aggravated Assault Unit of the APD, whose detectives arrived at the scene to uncover precisely what had led to the young man's injuries. Police have yet to publicly identify any suspects or motives behind the shooting, and as of the latest reports, the details surrounding the shooting remain blurred behind the veil of an ongoing investigation.
The APD has encouraged anyone with information to come forward in hopes to fully determine the events that culminated in this act of violence.
