As Usher fans in Chicago prepare for the "Past, Present, Future" tour set to hit the United Center stage on Halloween, one fan's joyful anticipation turned into confusion and frustration. Jazmin Johnson discovered that all eight of her purchased tickets had vanished from her Ticketmaster account—allegedly transferred to an unknown party. "I had a notification from Ticketmaster saying that my eight tickets had been transferred. Someone I have never met, do not know," Johnson told ABC7 Chicago.
This incident is not isolated. Others, including a woman in Los Angeles who found her tickets to Korn concert at the BMO Stadium had been similarly transferred, share Johnson's plight. Accounts across the country have been prey to unauthorized transfers, raising questions about the security of Ticketmaster's platform. The company, owned by Live Nation, has acknowledged a "massive cyberattack" some months ago compromising user data, which might be connected to these incidents.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Smith and her family experienced their own frustration when tickets to an Imagine Dragons concert for their son Greyson were stolen from their account. Smith stated, "Sure enough, the tickets we had purchased for a very expensive price were claimed by somebody named Codie Lee," according to her interview with NBC Los Angeles. The family was forced to make last-minute ticket purchases, leaving them $1,200 short and robbed of the experience they had anticipated.
Ticketmaster insists that passwords were not exposed during this year's breach, and instead suggests that scammers are accessing accounts through compromised fan emails. "Scammers are looking for new cheats across every industry, and tickets will always be a target because they are valuable, so Ticketmaster is constantly investing in new security enhancements to safeguard fans," a company statement explained. They recommend setting a strong, unique password for all accounts, especially personal email, where Ticketmaster said, they often see security issues originate.
For Johnson, after the intervention of the ABC I-Team, her tickets mysteriously reappeared back in her account. However, the underlying issue remains unresolved as fans across the nation are reporting similar experiences.
