
Early in the pre-dawn hours yesterday, a 46-year-old man faced a terrifying ordeal on Canaan Street. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reported that a carjacking occurred around 3:00 a.m. in the 900 block of the district. The victim was standing outside his tan 2010 Buick LaCrosse when he was approached by an individual wielding a rifle who emerged from a black sedan with tinted windows.
The armed suspect, described as wearing dark clothing and a mask, demanded the keys to the Buick. The man complied, handing over his keys, and subsequently the carjacker, and accompanying sedan, a vehicle also shrouded in the nocturnal guise quickly disappeared with the victim's automobile. According to SLMPD, both the stolen Buick and the black sedan were seen driving away together from the scene of the crime.
The identity of the suspect remains obscured by anonymity, as the mask and dark attire served to shield their appearance from the victim and potential witnesses. Authorities are calling for anyone who might have information on the incident to come forward. This act of brazen thievery, which tore a man from his means of transport, injects fear and unease into the community of Canaan Street and its surroundings.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has not disclosed any further details regarding the carjacking or the ongoing investigation at this juncture. However, they affirm their commitment to tracking down those responsible. The SLMPD takes these violent offenses seriously and our investigators are working diligently to identify and apprehend the suspect, a department spokesperson indicated in a statement.
