Athens-Clarke County has announced its schedule for processing and early tabulation of absentee ballots for the upcoming November 5 election. The Elections Department will begin working on ballots cast before Election Day, according to an official announcement on the Athens-Clarke County's website.
Starting Wednesday at 3:00 PM, the department will begin processing absentee ballots at the Athens-Clarke County Facilities Management Building, located at 2555 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605. While the goal is to speed up vote counting, some members of the public have expressed concerns about the integrity of early tabulation. However, the department assures that strict standards are being followed to ensure the accuracy and security of the vote.
The Elections Department has announced that the final early tabulation of votes from the advance voting period will start on November 5 at 6:00 PM. This decision to begin early tabulation is intended to manage the anticipated influx of absentee ballots, which has faced scrutiny and controversy in previous elections.
In accordance with Georgia law (O.C.G.A. 21-2-386(a)(3)), these preparations detail how ballots will be handled before this important democratic event. As ballot processing begins, officials stress that no results will be reported until the polls close on November 5. They highlight the need to wait for all ballots to be counted to ensure that every vote accurately reflects the will of the people.
