Long-time employee Jonathan "Buck" Sims has been recognized for his dedication and outstanding service in the solid waste industry. Awarded the Solid Waste Worker of the Year at the recent Georgia SWANA/Georgia Recycling Coalition Conference on September 18, Sims' work ethic and community spirit stand out in a field that’s crucial yet often unnoticed.
During his impressive tenure of more than two decades, Sims has demonstrated a knack for leadership and a commitment to the job that goes beyond regular expectations. His experience with operating various Collection Division trucks and mentoring new drivers has made a marked difference in the department's efficiency. According to a statement released by ACC, "His ability to operate all Collection Division trucks and equipment, along with his commitment to mentoring new drivers, has made a significant impact on our operations."
Jonathan “Buck” Sims is clocked in an extra 935.50 hours from August 2023 to August 2024, underlining his dedication to ensuring the community's needs are met with uninterrupted services. His approach reflects the efforts of many in the solid waste management sector, ensuring the continuation of these essential services.
Beyond the operational aspect, Sims has embraced a role in fostering a sense of camaraderie among his colleagues. He's organized and catered Solid Waste picnics, bringing individuals together in a profession that often involves solitary hours on the road. His initiative in these gatherings, including cooking on his own birthday, highlights the kind of community spirit and teamwork that his work unit credits for their success, which, among other tasks, maintains eight recycling drop-off sites and handles commercial trash and recycling services.
